Degree guide
The choose-your-own-adventure of health degrees: broad by design, feeding every clinical program and the health system's giant administrative engine. The breadth is the feature and the trap.
Health sci is the standard runway into medicine, PA, PT/OT, public health and health administration — and its generalist shape means the bachelor's alone lands mostly coordinator-level work. Used as a deliberate feeder with prerequisites mapped to a target program, it is excellent. Used as a four-year postponement of the decision, it delivers exactly that.
Typical Canadian ranges from Job Bank medians, checked Oct 2026. Actual outcomes vary by role, location, experience, and employer.

The system needs managers who know the floor
As good as any degree with the prerequisites and GPA — med schools are major-agnostic. Health sci makes prerequisite scheduling easy; it also pools you with many same-plan classmates. Have the parallel plan (the list above) mapped from year one.
Coordinator and analyst roles in health authorities, research units and public health — real jobs at moderate pay with visible ladders (MPH, MHA) above them. The degree's administrative lane is underrated and chronically understaffed.
Nursing licenses you at graduation into higher-paying clinical work; health sci keeps clinical doors open while adding the system-administration lane. Certain about bedside care: nursing. Torn between clinical and organizational: health sci keeps both alive.
